Accept what IS and Trust the Universe.

All the archetypal energies be they seasonal signs (especially Scorpio) or any initiation cycles (a.k.a planetary transits) are opportunities for us to Accept what IS for Now!

This is a concept that delineates the key component of Radical Compassion. When we feel a need to rescue or fix a person or situation we are not coming from true compassion but rather an addictive need to have things be different than what they are so we feel comfortable.

Accepting things as they are doesn’t mean we give up our desire for change or the willingness to take action to create change. This is really about the difference between an addictive need and a healthy preference. We can still prefer what we prefer while accepting what IS beyond our control.

Acceptance helps us to give up the need for it to be different than what it IS and that often facilitates the change all by it self, especially when we are not attached to what the change looks like.

A Healthy Scorpio perspective comes from the knowing that our desires are not good or bad, in fact desire is what fuels our co-creative process with the Universe. It is the attachment to the results that causes problems. It is the attachment to how we want it to look that limits our experience and often causes us to not truly see and appreciate ALL the wondrous gifts we already have.

I find help with accepting the unacceptable when I practice celebrating my life with gratitude and appreciation for all the gifts I already have. It is often the simple things like taking time to appreciate a beautiful day or the gift of friendship or the gift of getting to live in my home or receiving an email appreciating my writing, my personal and collaborative YouTube offerings, my sharing something personal, completing a project, being invited to share with a group and so much more. The more I celebrate my life, the more I have to celebrate.

Ken Keyes book Three Prescriptions for Happiness is brilliant in bringing a deeper understanding to all of this. The first prescription is:
Ask for what you want, but don’t demand it. It is important to ask without attachment to the outcome. Asking helps to clarify what we do want for ourselves. Also we can’t expect others to read our minds meaning we need to ask for what we want with out attachment to the results.

This requires practice at communicating in ways that are clear, requesting what we want but not demanding it look, or be, any certain way. It helps to remain open to the magic and mystery that will often fulfill our request in more fun and miraculous ways than we had ever imagined when we are open to the flow of life.

The second prescription he shares about is
Accept whatever happens – for now‖

He suggests this may mean that you’ll have to learn to accept the ―unacceptable.

You may have to have to forgive the – unforgivable.

You have to love the – unlovable.

You’ll have to learn to get your finger off that emergency alarm button in your mind that keeps you wound up so tight inside.

Do you really think your survival is threatened by the stuff you’re clinging to
or running away from?

It means that you’ll have to tell your mind that what looks like a catastrophe – just isn’t so!

There are many other people who are emotionally accepting what you’re making yourself unhappy about.

If they can accept the – unacceptable, perhaps you can, too.

Ken Keyes goes on to say:

Accepting may mean that you look at what you do have—and quit focusing so much on what you don’t have.

You constantly throw yourself out of the experience of enoughness because your mind is continuously preoccupied with what you don’t have.

You don’t let yourself enjoy what you have here and now in your life.

So accepting what is even if we feel it is unacceptable is liberating, freeing, and creates the space for us to be happy even if we haven’t gotten what we feel we truly want.

The last prescription is
Turn Up Your Love Even if you Don’t Get What you Want

Turn Up Your Love to be nice to yourself.

When we reject someone, whatever that person is doing is what you strongly reject in yourself. Remember, the world is your mirror….
When we allow love to guide our way, pure love, loving love, kind love, accepting love, that goes beyond Love having to be a certain way, often a way we have somehow been conditioned to believe is love that is often NOT truly heartfelt love.

It starts with healthy self-love. If you don’t love who you are then it is unlikely someone will ever be able to love you the way you want them too. I learned this in my second marriage when my husband said I wasn’t loving him in the way he wanted to be loved. I asked him what that would look like and his response was “If I tell you, its not the same.”

I told him I am not a mind reader and I had been doing everything I could think of to show him how much I loved him. He still refused to answer my question and in that moment I knew he didn’t know what being loved in the way he wanted to be loved would look like and he was hoping I would figure it out.

Later I realized that he didn’t know how to love himself either. He had the classic symptoms of wanting and needing something externally to fill him up, to fulfill something in him from the outside. I also realized I was never going to be the one to do that for him. Thankfully, a few weeks later he asked for a divorce.

So if you want more love in your life, start with giving yourself more love. Not narcissistic love that is always from the outside in…having others tell you how great you are. Rather it is from a place of wholeness within the self and from that place it is way easier to turn up your love even if you don’t get what you want!
