Why is the Mayan New Year on
July 26th?

This new year date is based upon Jose Arquelles intrepretation of the the Dreamspell’s prophetic “Chilam Balam” correlation date, corresponding to the  Sirius rising with the Sun currently occuring on July 25/26. This is when the Sun and Sirius are on the horizon together. Though both are rising at the same time only the Sun is visible to the naked eye.

This also marks the Egyptian New Year based on Thoth’s Egyptian Thirteen Moon Calendar. This auspicious alignment of Sirius with the Sun suggests the Earth is being bathed in an abundance of stellar light and information. As the brightest fixed star in the sky, Sirius has long been regarded as a link to a higher dimensional consciousness that is helping to quicken and evolve our planet. Sirius is also associated with the Divine Feminine.

What is the Day out of Time?

The Day out of Time, acknowledged annually with global celebration since 1992, occurs on July 25th. From the perspective of the Mayan 13 Moon calendar, this day is NO day of the month, and NO day of the week. It is inbetween the closing of the previous year (July 24th) and the dawning of the new year (July 26th).

This day out of time is reserved for festival and community when business as usual stops. This day is linked with the concept that “Time is Art!” Planetary Peace through Culture, forgiveness, atonement, freeing of debts, purification, the Art of Peace, the freedom of being alive. This is considered to be an opportunity to experience true timelessness and loving kindness. Whether public gatherings or private circles, this day is a catalytic launch-pad for the year to come, a great harnessing of telepathic presence, and a perfect way to invite new participants into the harmony of the 13 Moon Calendar.

“The Dreamspell Count based on the Gregorian calendar synchronization date of July 26, is a precise expression of the only recorded prophetic tradition of the Chilam Balam – the Jaguar priests of Lowland Yucatec Maya. The Quiche or Mayan long count represents the chronological order of time…as such, it is a linear interpretation of the Tzolkin or sacred calendar.

The purpose of the Chilam Balam Count was to establish a basis for understanding that there exists a synchronic order of time, completely apart from what is usually referred to as the Long Count, the linear count of days (BC 3113 – AD 2012). The synchronic order is complementary to this linear interpretation, but introduces the human to the radial order of the higher dimensions.

The Dreamspell synchronization system is called Cuceb (sometimes also called the Cuceb of Chilam Balam) a historical and mythological text written in the Yucatec Maya language during the early Colonial period. It is found within the sacred and historical Books of Chilam Balam (specifically the manuscript of Mani. Cuceb roughly translates to “that which revolves” or historically “squirrel”, and some linguists suggest it relates to partial fragments of a 52-year calendar cycle

The Chilam Balam Cuceb, revised as the Dreamspell Count, and the Traditional count, followed by the Highland Maya of Guatemala, differs by a number of days. The Traditional count is called ‘Oxlajuj Aipop’ and is kept by the Quiche, Cakchiquel, and Pocomam. We may now define the Traditional count as the Indigenous Maya and the Dreamspell/Chilam Balam as the Galactic Maya. The two counts actually constitute a prophectic alliance, meaning there is no conflict, as “the Law of Time embraces both systems in the higher fourth-dimensional order of truth.”

The Mayan calendar recognizes a ‘Day out of Time’ as it helps sync with the Solar Year. Currently then the “Day Out of Time” from the Gregorian calendar perspective is July 25. This is the  ‘Day of Celebration and Release,’ much like ‘New Year’s Eve’ in the Gregorian Calendar, though the day out of time is not technically counted. The natural time cycle starts again on July 26 and ends on July 24 (based on Gregorian calendar dates). This Day out of Time makes up one year in 365 days and 13 moon cycles.

July 26, 1998 The Galactic New Year with Jose Argüelles

According to Jose, July 26, 1998 was the day the two calendars met, the Mayan and the Gregorian. Just as experts were busy reconfiguring computers for the New Millennium, Jose Argüelles was busy attempting to reconfigure our calendar.

Argüelles felt measuring time, was one of the most important functions in the life of humans. He also felt this measuremment should reflect the cycle of Nature he determined to be a 28-day cycle of 13 moons per year. Because humans are a part of Nature, they are affected by this natural cycle. Therefore, the calendar, man’s instrument of time, should reflect the natural cycle of Nature. The problem with this caluculation is there are not 13 Moons each year. from Full Moon to Full Moon is 29.5 days so most years there are only 12 Full Moons. This means a calendar with 13 months (moonths) and 28 days is not aligned with the Lunar Cycle.

Our current Calendar is based on the movement of the Sun over approximately 365.2422 days. Hence why we have a leap year almost every 4 years and a Solar Calendar that drifts only One day in about 3300 years.

While José Argüelles and supporters of the 13-Moon Calendar Change Peace Plan did travel to Italy in the late 1990s, there is no official historical record of the Vatican or the Pontifical Academy of Sciences endorsing or recognizing the “Law of Time” as a scientifically or officially valid calendar.

The following is a message that incoporates the great vision of Sun Bear into the Calendar Change Prophecy, which we have been carrying: WORLD THIRTEEN MOON CALENDAR CHANGE PEACE MOVEMENT TIMESHIP EARTH 2013 THE DOMINION OF TIME ”

All the prophecies of the Native people speak of a time when human beings will face a choice between going on the same way with greed and technology, or going towards Spirit. I feel, and many others feel, that now is that time when we face that choice. We need to go toward Spirit now. These prophecies were given to warn all people on the planet, not just the Natives, but all the people on the planet. That way they can make the necessary changes in their lives.”

Sun Bear (1929-1992) ”The Thirteen Moon Calendar Change makes that choice we face practical and real. To accept and live by the Thirteen Moon Calendar is to go towards Spirit, to continue to follow the Gregorian Calendar is to continue to follow the same way of greed and technology. The time when we face that choice is July 26, 1998.

In fulfillment of all prophecy, this choice is available on that day for all people of the planet, when the New Calendar and the Old Calendar are lined up. You then have 52 weeks to make the necessary changes in your lives. This is the essence of the Great Calendar Change of 1998 and the 52-week Revolution in Time Peace Plan. Any change of calendar is a revolution in time. The 52-week Revolution in Time Peace Plan means that you have 52 weeks to phase out of the old time of war and greed and shift into the new time of peace and spiritual abundance.

In only one year, the old Gregorian Calendar will be gone and we will be living again in the natural time of Thirteen Moons of 28 days each. It all begins with the Global Peace Meditation, July 26, 1998, year of the Red Rhythmic Moon. José and Lloydine Argüelles, Coordinators World Thirteen Moon Calendar Change Peace Movement” Truth is Love. Tolerance is Justice. Peace is Forever. Valum Votan and Bolon Ik

Notes from 2026:
Clearly, earthlings did NOT adopt the Mayan 13 Moon Calendar in 1998. We are still using the Gregorian Calendar. I agree the Gregorian Calendar is a linear way of tracking time fixating awareness in material reality. The answer may not be to change the Calendar but to expand our awareness around the concept of Time and the important ceremonial moments that occur such as the Seasonal Shifts, Moon Phases, Planetary Alignments, the Sun passing by the magical stars etc…

Not only did our global Gregoiran Calendar not change in 1998, the end of the Mayan Calendar in 2012 did not end our reality. I would like to think we are still in the process of shifting our experience of Time to a more natural experience. Since I haven’t lived by the Mayan 13 Moon Calendar I don’t know how that would shift my experience of time but I do feel my experience of time is constantly growing and evolving as I grow and evolve and continue to welcome sacred time into my everyday life. Here are some thoughts on the difference between sacred time and linear time I put together mainy years ago. https://cayelincastell.com/sacred-time-and-clock-time/
